Of costumes and Halloweens
Long gone were the days where I kept myself tied along my bed thinking about a humdrum of a life I have during halloween. If I’m not mistaken, the last legit halloween party I attended was during my grade school years where I didn’t even wear a costume, and since then I wasn’t really inclined in attending such events because it saves me the hassle of thinking of what character to portray. This time was different though. I had to attend this party because the person who invited me was a really dear friend and I couldn’t say no to her after all the things she has done to us when our group went to Singapore.
As evidently observed, halloween parties nowadays do not adhere anymore to the typical environment where ghosts, ghouls, and gory make-ups’ dominate the room. Halloween parties has also evolve over the past years and people in our generation know wear costumes that depicts a certain popular character — whether you’d be a marvel character, a movie protagonist/antagonist, a cartoon character, a professional athlete, or even a cereal box (literally) should you want to be. And people do take this seriously no matter how comical you look. The more similar and daring your outfit is, the more attention you get.
So having to experience a halloween party yesterday was truly an eye-opener on my part. I can’t believe how much I am missing in not participating in such. I was stunned, bewildered even, by how much effort people exert in creating their outfits. Thank goodness though that I had an idea of what character to portray the night before so it definitely helped me to blend in properly with the crowd.
Here’s a photo of what I wore yesterday:

Yup, I was a thinner, less ripped version of Ryu from the famous fighting game in the 90’s called Street Fighter, and that’s my friend over there dressed up as Clark Kent of Superman. Definitely glad to hear good feedback from my friends over my costume in which I didn’t spent a single cent.
Here are some photos of my friends and I in their own unique outfits:

Gryffindor robes from Harry Potter.

Sasuke from the famous anime, Naruto. I really envy my friend for this costume. I want my own Sasuke outfit. Maybe next year?

My friend wearing an afro who danced all night long. I admire him for his energy and I don’t even know where he gets that. haha

Ryu meets the gorgeous Black Swan.

I told you, people dress in the most wicked ways they could imagine. A cereal box and a carrot? Amazing right?

My friend who decided that he’ll be Dora last night.
And of course, here’s a photo of my beloved EXECOM (incomplete):

I guess I now have this appreciation towards halloween parties because of all the real life characters I get to see. I mean, this is one day where you could disguise yourself to be whoever you want to be so I’ll just have to make the most out of it, right?
Yet again, another amazing night to welcome the month of November. Thanks Nadj for throwing an amazing party. This post already got me thinking of what character I’ll play next year.
Oh well. Cheers to a great October!
